Creating images using A.I
May 23rd 2023
Over the last month or so I’ve been delving in to the world of A.I image generating, and its been a pretty mind blowing, eye opening experience!
I decided I needed to try and stop feeling so worried and gloomy about what was happening with a.i in the art world (all the image stealing and fake artists etc) and try and get my positive pants back on. Some artists are learning how they can add A.I skills to their toolkits and use it in ways that add to their creativity. It can be used as incredible tool to help advance ideas and visually brainstorm.
I have tried Dall-E, Midjourney and Beta testing for the Adobe Firefly and I’ve achieved some incredible results with all of them really. I’ve used my photography knowledge and terminology to use as prompts as if I’m directing a real photoshoot. Adding the camera type, format, ISO’s, Apertures, shutter speeds, lens type, lighting type and direction.
I created a temporary instagram account for this which I have now deactivated - as I was getting a fair few enquiries about teaching and blogging about ‘how to use ai ‘etc .. and that’s really not something I’m interested in, it was purely a bit of fun and for me to test what was possible.
Here are some of the images I created.
I must admit though, now I’ve dipped my toe in and had fun playing around in this strange AI world I feel like I’ve got a bit bored of it now. I’ve also discovered its not as easy as you think to create realistic photographs exactly how you want them. It takes a lot of time and rejigging of prompts to get what you want (if you have a clear idea to begin with). I also know I will never trust a photograph I see to be real ever again!
For now I am back to spending more time on my authentic art and drawing with my pencils (something A.I can’t do … yet!). Although I do think I will be incorporating the AI tools in to my artists tool kit in the future.
